About this route

Sarajevo to Srebrenica transfer

Srebrenica is a name that carries immense weight. The town in eastern Bosnia is home to the Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial and Cemetery, which commemorates the more than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys killed in July 1995 in what the International Court of Justice ruled was genocide. It is the largest massacre on European soil since World War II.

Visiting the memorial is a profoundly moving experience. The site includes a museum with photographs, personal belongings, and testimony from survivors, as well as the vast cemetery where thousands of white grave markers stretch across a green hillside. The memorial is open to all visitors and there is no entry fee. Guided tours are available and highly recommended for understanding the full context of what happened here.

We approach this transfer with the seriousness it deserves. Our drivers are respectful, knowledgeable about the history, and understand that this is not a typical tourist excursion. Many visitors — including diplomats, journalists, students, and families of victims — make this journey, and we are honoured to facilitate it. A private transfer is the most practical way to reach Srebrenica, as public transport connections are very limited.

The drive

What the road looks like

The route heads east from Sarajevo through the suburb of Pale and onto the Romanija plateau, passing through dense coniferous forests. The road is well-paved but winding as it crosses the mountains of eastern Bosnia. After descending from the plateau, you pass through Vlasenica and into the Drina River basin.

The final approach to Srebrenica follows the Drina valley through increasingly rural terrain. The memorial centre at Potocari is located approximately 5 km before the town of Srebrenica itself, in the former UN compound. The site is clearly signposted.
