About this route

Mostar to Dubrovnik transfer

The Mostar to Dubrovnik transfer is one of the most popular routes in the Western Balkans, connecting Bosnia's most visited town with Croatia's crown jewel on the Adriatic. At 140 kilometres, the drive takes you from the Ottoman streets of Mostar through the sun-baked Herzegovina countryside and across the Croatian border to the walled city of Dubrovnik.

What makes this journey special is the landscape between the two cities. The route passes through the medieval fortress village of Pocitelj, within reach of the thundering Kravice waterfalls, and through the Neretva delta before hitting the Adriatic coast. With a private transfer, you control the pace — stop where you like, photograph what catches your eye, and arrive at Dubrovnik's gates relaxed rather than cramped from a bus.

This route involves a border crossing between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. Your driver handles the logistics — you just need your passport ready.

The drive

What the road looks like

Leaving Mostar, the road heads south through the lower Neretva valley. The landscape shifts quickly from the lush green gorges around Mostar to the drier, Mediterranean-influenced terrain of southern Herzegovina. Vineyards and pomegranate orchards line the roadside as you pass through villages where stone houses have replaced the wooden ones of central Bosnia.

Pocitelj appears on the left, its stone tower and cluster of Ottoman buildings climbing a dramatic limestone cliff above the Neretva. Further south, a short detour leads to Kravice waterfalls, hidden in a green amphitheatre of travertine rock — a highlight of any trip through Herzegovina.

The border crossing at Metkovic-Doljani requires a brief passport check from both Bosnian and Croatian officers. Once in Croatia, the road follows the coast with views over the Adriatic islands before descending into Dubrovnik. Your driver navigates the approach roads and drops you at the nearest point to your accommodation.
