About this route

Sarajevo to Visoko transfer

Visoko is home to what may be the most debated archaeological site in the world — the Bosnian Pyramids. Since 2005, when researcher Semir Osmanagic proposed that the pyramid-shaped Visocica hill is actually an ancient man-made structure, the site has drawn hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the globe. Whether you believe the pyramids are real or view them as a fascinating geological phenomenon, the experience of walking the tunnels and climbing the hills is genuinely unique.

The Pyramid of the Sun (Visocica hill) rises 220 metres above the valley floor in a near-perfect geometric shape. Nearby, the Pyramid of the Moon and several smaller formations add to the complex. The Ravne tunnels — a network of underground passages beneath the site — are the most tangible attraction, with guided tours through narrow stone corridors that some researchers claim date back thousands of years.

At just 35 km from Sarajevo, Visoko is the shortest transfer we offer and one of the easiest day trips from the capital. The drive takes barely 30 minutes on the highway, leaving you a full day to explore the pyramids, tunnels, and the pleasant town of Visoko itself. A private transfer is ideal because the pyramid sites are spread across several hills with no public transport between them — your driver takes you from one to the next.

What the road looks like

The route follows the A1 motorway north from Sarajevo through the Bosna River valley. Visoko appears after just 30 minutes — the distinctive triangular profile of Visocica hill is immediately recognisable from the highway. Your driver exits the motorway and navigates to the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Foundation visitor centre or directly to the Ravne tunnel entrance, depending on your preference.

Practical info

What to expect

Pickup is from your hotel or any address in Sarajevo. The drive is just 30-35 minutes on a modern motorway.

The main sites to visit are: the Ravne tunnels (guided tour, approximately 45-60 minutes), the Pyramid of the Sun viewpoint and excavation sites (30-60 minutes hiking up the hill), and the Pyramid of the Moon (optional, another 30-minute walk). Your driver can shuttle you between sites as the pyramids are spread across a few kilometres.

Wear comfortable walking shoes — the tunnel paths are uneven and the hill climbs are moderate. The Ravne tunnels maintain a constant cool temperature of about 12°C year-round. Allow 3-4 hours for a thorough visit. Combine with Travnik (55 km further) for a full day trip.

Common questions

Sarajevo to Visoko FAQ

That is the great debate. Researcher Semir Osmanagic and his foundation believe Visocica hill and surrounding formations are the world's oldest pyramids. Mainstream archaeologists and geologists consider them natural geological formations. Regardless of which side you take, the site is fascinating to visit and the tunnels are genuinely impressive.

Allow 3-4 hours for a thorough visit including the Ravne tunnels (45-60 min guided tour), the Pyramid of the Sun viewpoint (30-60 min), and optional Pyramid of the Moon. Your driver waits and shuttles you between sites.

Tours of the Ravne tunnels run throughout the day during the visitor season (April-November). In summer, no advance booking is needed — tours depart frequently. In the off-season, it is worth checking schedules. Your driver can call ahead for you.

Yes, this makes an excellent full-day trip. Visit the pyramids in the morning (3-4 hours), then continue 55 km northwest to Travnik for the fortress, Plava Voda springs, and famous cevapi. Back in Sarajevo by evening.

The walk up Visocica hill (Pyramid of the Sun) is moderate — about 20-30 minutes on a marked forest path. It is not technically difficult but involves some uphill walking. Comfortable shoes recommended. The Ravne tunnels are flat but narrow in places.

The Ravne tunnel tour has a small entrance fee (approximately 10-15 BAM per person). The hills themselves are open access. Your transfer price covers only the vehicle and driver, not attraction entry fees.
