From SJJ Airport, the route heads southwest through Ilidza, following the Bosna river springs area. The road then climbs into the mountains, passing through small villages where traditional Bosnian stone houses dot the hillsides. The final approach to Bjelasnica winds through dense forest before opening onto the ski area.
The drive is short but scenic, transitioning quickly from the flat Sarajevo plain to genuine mountain terrain. In winter, the snow line is usually visible partway up, and the trees become increasingly laden with snow as you climb.
